On JK Rowling's official site, when asked about the prophecy, Jo stated that she and Professor Trelawney worded the prophecy very carefully. Could this mean that Trelawney had a conscious part in wording the prophecy? Is she a fraud?

More OotP

So yet another trailer of OotP is set to come out, its due date being May 4th. Hey, that was my due date. Anyway, what are those Warner Brothers thinking? At this rate, we'll have seen the whole movie (albeit in scattered pieces) by July 13th.

In other OotP news, MuggleNet has reported that there are a number of new stills from the movie, plus a print of that evil Lord Voldemort, which they provide for us here. Hmm. Hmm.....Voldy got a sex change! Voldy got a sex change! Oh wait, nevermind. He's still a guy.

UPDATE: With the release of a hoard of new stills from the new trailer, Voldemort is shown to be breathing fire. So they'd better alter the line to "You will lose everything...including your eyebrows. Muahahaha."

OotP International Trailer

So the OotP International trailer, as promised by Warner Bros. and as not linked to by HPANA, was released today. The only thing I found weird about it was Voldy in a suit. That ruined the rest of the trailer for me, because all I could think about for the whole time was "Hello, I am Voldemort from the third floor. According to our latest model, rates should be going up within the next three months."

Other than that, the only other thing that really bothered me was the surprise appearance of a line cheesier than "If Voldemort's building up an army, I want to fight"--"Who are you and what have you done with Hermione Granger?" (Ron). It is this blogger's opinion that this line should be followed by Hermione saying "I waited 'till she let her guard down and then I snuck up behind her and impaled her neck with my wand. I then stuffed her body in my bag and threw it into the lake. Unfortunately, this resulted in an offending odor and the mermaids threw her body back out, where it rotted for hours until Snape found it and took it to his bed chamber."
That'll teach Ron to use contextually cheesy expressions.

Some Thoughts on HPANA

Has anyone ever noticed that HPANA (Harry Potter Automatic News Aggregator) treats their audience like a bunch of idiots? Example:

Let me get this straight. HPANA thinks that they can mention the leaked trailer and not give us that link? Why shouldn't we be able to decide for ourselves if we want to watch it or not? This is conclusive evidence that HPANA is staffed at least partially by Nazis.
HPANA apparently also thinks that they can trick us into thinking that the description of the trailer is "great enough" just by saying so.

Anyway, if you really want to see the description of the trailer, that's too bad. It is very poor quality, so I will not be posting a link to it.

Harry Potter: A Nice Little Icing on the Cake

In a new interview, Scholastic CEO Richard Robinson said about Harry Potter:

We look at Harry Potter as a wonderful icing on top of the cake, but we are essentially a children's book and media company, with our own distribution network and book clubs. There's no question that Harry Potter gave us a big boost. It brought us name recognition, but Harry Potter never exceeded 8 percent of our total revenue.

So Harry Potter, the biggest worldwide and internet franchise since pornography, is a wonderful icing on top of the cake? I ask you, then, what is the actual cake? Is it that series that's bigger than Harry Potter? Answer that, Rick, before you start saying that Lord of the Rings is a couple of cute sprinkles and Shakespeare is the candles.

Order of the Phoenix in IMAX

IMAX today unveiled (get it?) their poster promoting Order of the Phoenix in IMAX in 3D. There appear to be many things wrong with this poster, only one of which being that Ron appears twice: once in the front left and another one standing behind the first Ron, this time with long hair. Another one is that Luna looks, well, ugly. There's no other way to describe it.

Anyway, the text at the bottom of the poster reads: "Experience the Movie's Explosive Finale in IMAX 3D." Looks like they've already 3Ded Hermione.

The Great Snape Debate

An add appeared on MuggleNet today for a new book at Borders: The Great Snape Debate. Is he a friend or a foe? Well, Borders, when the cover of the book is a sinister green snake slithering sinisterly out of a sinister steaming cauldron, I'm inclined to think he's a foe. But who knows? Maybe the black background and deathly yellow eyes are a sign of goodness.

The US cover. What was your first reaction? Mine was WTF. Of all the colors I imagined it would be, I never thought of orange. But good for Mary Grandpre' to not go with the norm! As for the thing around Harry's neck, it looks like a pouch. Could it be that Harry has started smoking Floo Powder?

The British Children's Cover: WTFer. I'm sorry, I just don't see why Hermione had to look like the daughter of a rabbit and a troll. But that's just my opinion.

Many are speculating that 2007 will be a "Harry Potter year," what with the release of the fifth movie on July 13th (already confirmed) and the possible release of Book 7 (The Deathly Hallows) sometime this year.

In that spirit, many are also wondering if Harry will bite the dust when the final book rolls around. The main evidence supporting this theory is that it will prevent others from writing sequels to Harry Potter.
However, no one would have the rights to publish a subsequent Potter novel anyway, except perhaps JKR's heirs, in which case she would still have the final say on its publication.

Theories abound on what the title means. We showed you some anagrams of "Deathly Hallows," and anagrams tell no lies.

An interesting fact:
Over here at the Hollow Phoenix headquarters, it's almost 11:30 PM. At MuggleNet, it's already Christmas, as indicated by their latest post.

In any case, I'd like to commemorate six Christmases past.

On Christmas in Sorcerer's Stone (or Philosopher's to those more Britishly tuned-in), Harry recieves his best-yet present from the Dursleys (a coin), a flute form Hagrid, and his father's Invisibility Cloak. He uses it to discover the mirror of Erised and several other vital things throughout the series.

In Chamber of Secrets on December 25th, Harry and Ron transform into Crabbe and Goyle with their newly-brewed polyjuice potion. They infiltrate the Slytherin Common Room, where they learn close to nothing.

December 25, 1993: Book 3: Harry gets his Firebolt from Sirius, becomes very excited about it, then gets it confistcated by McGonagall, eventually to be returned safe of all its nonexistent hexes.

Who could forget the dramatic Yule Ball on Christmas in Goblet of Fire? This is the point where we fans become sure that Ron and Hermione are going to hit it off. Ron's jealousy rages when Hermione dances with Krun, and Hermione leaves the ball in tears after a row with Ron.

Harry and the gang, including the Weasley family, visit Saint Mungo's Hospital on Christmas in Order of the Phoenix. There, they discover that Neville's parents are clinically insane by Crucio, and that Lockhart's mental capacity is improving..slowly...

Chritmas in Year Six has Rufus Scrimgeour seeking Harry's help for the Ministry's public appearance. Harry, in his charismatic, independent way, denies, more willing to be Dumbledore's man than the Ministry's pet.

There you have it. Six books of Christmases. Happy Christmahanukwanzaakka to you all.

QUIBBLER: Pickled Dragon Found in England

According to smh.com, a baby dragon was discovered preserved in a jar in 2003. The "dragon," which was found in Oxfordshire, England, was discovered with a metal tin containing paperwork in old-fashioned German of the 1890s.

They believe it may have been a hoax that a museum rejected.

Britain's The Sun magazine has reported that Emma Watson is having a tough time finding a boyfriend. The Sun is a tabloid as is known for making up stories. Emma is quoted as saying:

"Oh it must be so easy for you - dating and boys. They must be lining up for you."

"It's really not easy. It's really not. I suppose guys are either kind of intimidated by me and have their defences up, or they like to take the p$$ out of me. And I'm surrounded by cute older guys on set. That's my problem.

The first stills of the new Harry Potter movie were released today. In one image, Dan is seen crouching in an grimy alleyway as he attempts to defend himself from an attack by the Dementors.

In another, says Scotsman.com, Imelda Staunton (Umbridge) stands in Hogwarts wearing a pink tweed poncho. Maggie Smith, as Minerva McGonagall, clasps her arms round Emma Thompson, looking uncharacteristically frumpy as Sybil Trelawny.

Robbie Coltrane on his Famous Life

In a revealing interview, Hagrid actor Robbie Coltrane was asked about his "personal demons" and about being famous.

"The thing about being visited with depression – and I’m not saying that I’m suicidal or anything like that, but I do get down sometimes – I would say that if somebody says, ‘You’ve got to be on set tomorrow at six o’clock’ and there’s going to be, well, Harry Potter, there’s 1500 crew - you’d better pull yourself together before six o’clock tomorrow and know your words and know why you’re there and be convincing, because it’s going to be on a bit of celluloid forever, probably. Harry Potter has front page controversy...again

When Midland Daily News published a front-page article about a local woman's fears of Harry Potter, several subscribes responded angrily, saying that Harry Potter doesn't deserve the front page (If only they had said that in Book 5).
Today, the editor of Midland Daily News put out an argument against those angry subscribers:

We believed it would be the best read story in the paper that day. And it probably was....Frankly, I don't buy any of the arguments against the books. I've read the entire series, as have my daughter and son. We just think they are a blast to read. In other words, they are fun and entertaining. That's all.

HEY Y'ALL, SNUFFLES HERE.
Reporting on a favorite of us all, wizard rock. I got to hear the best bands out there. Draco and the Malfoys, and Harry and the Potters.
Now if y'all don't know who they are, you must check out their myspaces to hear the music. I'm not lending you any.

Harry and the Potters were the coolest. Their keyboardist is is a spaz. he jumps a lot. And he's just hilarous. The guitarist is hilarious. He let me touch his hair. But that's another story that if you want to hear, you'd be better off going off to my blog. It was good to see the houses united under one musical prefrence. Draco and the Malfoys were hilarious. Even us Gryffindors were cracking up as they insulted our flag ship, a Mr. Potter. The keyboardist of HatP was behind us booing them. So we booed with him. But that was for a reason that is biased and teenagerish. The Draco and the Malfoys always loved the booing, and one time, when it got especially loud, the guitarist (of DatM) was all happy. JKR Says She Might Kill off Harry

JK Rowling, in an interview with MSN News, admitted that a bit of the last chapter of Book 7 has been rewritten slightly, and that two characters who she didn't intend to kill off will die. She also said that one of them might be Harry. However horrifying a thought it is, when the saga ends, Harry might, too. Watch a video here.

Harry & Friends in Preview of Queen's B-Day Skit

Today, The Leaky Cauldron released a video of yesterday's commercial advertising the skit to be performed at the Queen's 80th birthday party. The commercial can be found here and features the trio; Dan Radcliffe telling an owl to deliver a latter to Buckingham Palace. The Queen's birthday is Sunday, June 25th. It will be aired live on the BBC.

Hogwarts in Matchsticks

Matchstick Marvels has constructed a model of Hogwarts Castle made entirely of matchsticks. The castle, which took over three years to build, is made of over half a million matchsticks. In December, it will be displayed in a Spanish museum.

JKR was just ranked number 19 on the Forbes most powerful celebs.

One of the few billionaires on our list, J.K. Rowling is preparing to close the book on her "Harry Potter" series. The next installment, the seventh in the series, is rumored to be her last, although she'll continue to write and will likely explore other parts of the Potter milieu. Worldwide sales of the Potter books have topped 300 million copies worldwide. "The Goblet of Fire" was last year's highest-grossing film, with a worldwide box office take of $892 million.

Muggle Parent Appeals to Keep Harry Potter in Schools

Several months back, a Harry Hater in Laurenceville, Georgia named Laura Mallory (who has four kids), complained that the Harry Potter books had "evil themes, witchcraft, demonic activity, murder, evil blood sacrifice, spells and teaching children all of this." This, coming from a woman who has never read the books: she thinks they are "too long." This Muggle wants to keep Harry Potter books out of all school libraries in Gwinnett County.

On April 20th, scores of educators, parents and students showed their support for the books in a public hearing, and both the local school and system media committees concurred. In fact, the support for the books remaining in school libraries was so strong that hearing officer Su Ellen Bray offered ten reasons why they shouldn't be removed and on May 11th, the Gwinnett Board of Education voted that the novels should stay.

On Friday, Mallory appealed this decision, which is legal terms for I-don't-like-your-decision-soI'm-gonna-get-another-court-to-overcome-you.

We here at Harry Potter NewsNet have spent the last few weeks creating NEW things for HP NewsNet. What are these things? First of all, I'd like to say that my name is really Sam. Yes, it may come as a shock, but it's true.

Secondly, Harry Potter NewsNet is going to have a radio show and PodCast! We are still deciding on a time and weekly date for this show, but you needn't worry about that, as it will also be a PodCast. This PodCast' cast will include:

Me, Sam
My friend, "Remus"
And, perhaps, our wacky friend Cherish, who likes to be called Ginny.

On this PodCast, we will discuss theories, ideas, controversy, all that good stuff. Is Dumbledore dead? What is Voldemort's history? And just why are HP readers going to Hell?

Phelps say OOTP filming is going well
At Collectormania 9 yesterday, James and Oliver Phelps spoke a little to CBBC Newsround. With regard to filming the Order of the Phoenix movie, James commented: "We can't say too much, but filming is going really well - it's really good fun."Oliver added: "We've met a few of the new actors to join the cast and they seem really cool and we're looking forward to working with them."They also discussed the fan attention they receive because of the Harry Potter films. "It's still weird when there's loads of people coming to meet you, but at the same time quite nice as well," said James. Oliver elaborated: "And it's all part of the filming process - it's nice to get feedback from everyone who's seen and appreciates the film."Thanks to everyone who emailed!

The Harry Potter Lexicon, beloved and complete Harry Potter Internet Encyclopedia, has gone the way of Dumbledore! That is, it appears to be dead, but no one's really sure. When you try to go to it, an information page states that the "domain name expired on 04/24/2006 and is pending renewal or deletion." If it is gone, then wizards and witches around the world are in deep trouble. Let's cross our fingers!

Chris Rankin who plays Percy Weasley, recently did an interview with SurreyOnline about his role in the OotP. He had the following to say about his character:

"Over the course of the films, he's gone from being a stuck-up, poncey prefect to quite a nasty piece of work.... My character didn't appear in the last film but, when he makes his return in the next one, he starts to become really obnoxious.... By that stage, of course, he's working for the Ministry of Magic and he's become so power-hungry that he'll step on anyone to get where he wants."

Krum and Aide at Elf Fantasy Fair

Stanislav Ianevski (Krum) and Tolga Safer (Karkaroff's Aid) were both in attendance at this year's Elf Fantasy Fair in the Netherlands. Here is a paraphrased interview from the event:

What house would you like to be in? Both: Slytherin
Is Alan Rickman's nose really that big in real life? Tolga: I think mine is bigger.
What was your favorite scene to do? Stanislav: The Maze. Tolga: The Durmstrang Entrance.
Which of the actors was the most annoying? Tolga: I would love to answer that, but I really can't.
How does it feel to be the best Quidditch Player in the world? Stanislav: Pretty good.
Do you know any Dutch words? Stanislav: Snoepje [The word means "candy". A girl from the audience gave them both a piece of candy, on which Tolga Safer nearly choked; he actually had to go backstage to get rid of it]
What was the weirdest question that a fan ever asked you? Stanislav: Not actually a question, but there was a grown woman that just stared at me for half an hour, then came up to me and said "I just love you" and walked away again. Tolga: A fan once asked me what the weirdest present was that I'd ever gotten and I said that no one had ever given me a present, so after the session a group of girls gave me about twenty teddy bears and so I returned to the hotel with a mini toy store in my backpack.
Is there any rivalry between the two of you because you [Tolga] auditioned for the part of Krum, but he [Stanislav] got it? Tolga: [There was] No rivalary at all. [Whole story about his audition] He doesn't look like me at all. I think I would have been bummed out if he'd looked like me.
What other character would you like to play? Tolga: Snape. Stanislav: Voldemort.
Have either of you met J.K. Rowling? Both: No.
They were also asked numerous times if they could be hugged or kissed by girls in the audience. The audience greatly appreciated their answers and openness and laughed and "awwed" quite a few times.

JK Rowling Donates to MS Research Center

JK Rowling has donated a large amount of money to help create a research center for Multiple Sclerosis in Edinburgh, at The Centre for Regenerative Medicine in Edinburgh University. JK Rowling's own mother died of MS, and she had this to say about her donation:

"It means a great deal to me to be able to provide support for this much-needed research centre. It is an extremely exciting step forward in the ongoing battle to try to unlock the mysteries of MS and which will hopefully, one day, lead to a cure."

Uncle Vernon Pestered by Kids

Richard Griffiths, who plays Uncle Vernon in the Harry Potter movies, apparently can't go anywhere without being bothered by kids who expect him to be just as horrible as the character he plays. In an interview with the New York Post, the actor commented on the young Harry Potter stars and how when the movies get "darker and increasingly complex, massive acting demands are going to be made on them. Will they have the emotional technique to do it? It's going to be very interesting to find out."

Weasleys Discuss OotP Filming on BBC Radio

Rupert Grint, along with James and Oliver Phelps, appeared on BBC Radio 1's Jo Whiley show this morning. Reader Izzy wrote to MuggleNet with the following:

The interview was slightly informative. We learn that all three love rock music, and that Rupert has a dressing room that is more like a den, with a dartboard, a pool table and a plasma screen TV. Also, Rupert said that he has just come from filming the scene in Umbridge's office with the Inquisitorial Squad, so at least we know that the writers aren't cutting that out! And, last but not least, when asked to say one word to describe the actors they're working with, they said that they think of Dan as "hyperactive," Gary Oldman as "cool," and Emma as "Different. Totally different from her character, totally." And Jo Whiley said "That's not one word..."

GoF Grosses $20 Million in IMAX

Pictures today announced that Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire: The IMAX Experience has grossed more than $20 million, becoming the first digitally re-mastered 2D IMAX release to reach the milestone. The IMAX release has now grossed a total of $20,033,758 million worldwide for a cumulative per screen average of $188,998.

Dan Fellman, President of Domestic Distribution at WB Pictures, commented: "We are thrilled with the unprecedented box office performance of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire in IMAX theatres. Warner Bros. Charges Bajaj With Copywright Violation

Warner Bros. has charged Bajaj Auto Ltd., a motor company in India with Copywright violations. Jadoo, an Indian television show, has been running ads featuring a character who bears a striking resemblance to Harry Potter. A spokesman for Bajaj had this to say:

"The West feels that anyone in a red bikini is Baywatch and any flying boy is Harry Potter. Our concept of Jadoo is unique and we don't believe it's copied from Harry Potter....We feel the claim is exaggerated."

Well, Mr. Spokesperson, the boy practically is Harry Potter. He has dark hair, flowing red robes, large round wire-rimmed glasses, and happens to be flying on a Nimbus 2000. Today, the National Portrait Gallery in London will display a portrait of Daniel Radcliffe, done by Stuart Pearson Wright, who most remember for his portrait of JK Rowling. Dan posed for the portrait when he was 14, and recently commented on it:

"I love it. Until recently, I'd seen a peek of it in the catalogue, but not actually seen the real thing. It was strange seeing myself as I was two years ago, not as I am now. If you look at each individual part of my face they look exactly like part of my face. Together it's surreal. It's a great honour to be in there among such amazing actors and actresses."

Bloomsbury Ponders its Big Bucks

"Once, Bloomsbury was a small, well-respected, independent publisher. Now, thanks to JK Rowling's phenomenal success, it has more money than it knows how to spend. But are the Potter millions distorting the British book trade? And does the publisher risk losing its soul?"

Of course not! Harry Potter only gives it more soul! Bloomsbury, the publishing house that publishes the Harry Potter books in England, is (in addition to worrying about the end of its golden years at the end of Harry Potter) expecting Book 7 to be out in 2007, with the paperback version coming out in 2008. The OotP movie is also coming to theatres in 2007, so fans have a while to wait before anything on that front.

JK Rowling's piece on her Official Site was well-recieved by most people, but not by some. The Mail on Sunday printed an article talking about how Jo's a hypocrite because she made Dudley fat. I agree with the opinion of Ciaran (from MuggleNet):

The Mail's article is rather inaccurate in parts. For example, it calls Hermione "ravishing and trim," but I have never seen Hermione described as such in the books (except in The Yule Ball), and in general we could say that Hermione isn't too attractive (with her bushy hair and long front teeth), possibly making her a role model for similar girls. I believe The Mail uses the above description simply to suit its argument. Also, the newspaper fails to mention Snape and Malfoy, who are both described as thin and are both evil characters in the books.

David Thewlis, who is playing Remus John Lupin in the fifth Harry Potter film, discussed how it was going. In an article yesterday in the Belfast Telegraph, he said:

Luna Lovegood Actress Info

MuggleNet talked to the father of Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood in OotP), revealing some "tidbits" about her. As MuggleNet puts it:

He mentioned that just over a year ago, Evanna and some of her friends sent WB a video demo tape of them acting, hoping to earn a role in the movies. Evanna didn't hear back from Warner Bros. until a day before the Luna open casting call was announced (although the letter was dated months before). They said that they couldn't offer her a part.

It had previously been reported that four or five girls had been selected by WB as potential Lunas, but the studio wasn't completely satisfied with the choices. This is why they announced the open casting call in London. When Evanna saw the news on MuggleNet, she wasn't overly excited but more surprised and expectant. Apparently, Evanna was picked straightaway from the 400 hopefuls that were narrowed down from the 15,000 who turned up at the open casting auditions.

The filming hours are long but Evanna is really enjoying herself. She and some of the other actors are receiving acting tuition. Also, Evanna is getting along very well with the cast and she spoke to JK Rowling for at least an hour when the author visited the set last week.

GoF Disappears off UK Shelves

The Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire DVD has become the fastest selling DVD in the UK! Since March 20, the day of its release, the DVD has sold 6 copies every second, and three copies per second were sold in the first six days since the movie hit the shelves. Now, 1.4 million copies have been sold, making it the seventh biggest selling DVD of all time.

Order of the Phoenix Filming Information

CBBC Newsround's Lizo recently visited the set of Order of the Phoenix and interviewed some of the stars. MuggleNet readers recorded these segments of their report:

According to Dan, "I was meant to film the kiss last week, but I had gastric flu, so Katie, umm, well she may have escaped this time... but I'll catch her one day!" Katie said she was both excited and nervous about the kiss. Emma said she would be sniggering in the background. The filming of that particular scene has been postponed for a few weeks.

Recently, they've been filming the scenes involving the Room of Requirement and quite a lot in the Forbidden Forest, including the part where the centaurs rampage after Umbridge.

David Heyman said the film would be released either summer or fall 2007, and the sixth film would be out late 2008. He also mentioned that a trailer should be revealed by the end of this year.

In addition, CBBC Newsround has added this contest to their website to win a GoF DVD signed by Daniel, Rupert and Emma. To qualify for the contest, you must know who Harry brought to the Yule Ball. Good luck!

Sirius Black: The Dog Came Back

After weeks of uncertainty, Gary Oldman is finally set to reprise his role as Sirius Black in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Douglas Urbanski also confirmed the information with HPANA:

"I'm so relieved and happy. I can't put my mind in the place of the producers, but I would've thought that when they read the book, a call to us would've been very high on their list. Obviously, the character of Sirius Black is key."

According to Douglas Urbanski of the Douglas Management Group, it's unfair of Warner Bros. to make Gary Oldman (Sirius in Movies 3 and 4) wait (WB hasn't yet asked him to play Sirius in Movie 5). Urbanski also said that if WB doesn't make an offer to Oldman for the part by this week, Gary Oldman will not play Sirius in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

The title pretty much says it all. The UK got the Goblet of Fire DVD today. I can't help but give up every ounce of dignity I have and laugh at the fact that we got it before they did. Ha!

Emma Watson Says She's Like Hermione

In a recent interview, Emma Watson (who plays Hermione, for those of you who've been living under a rock for the last five years) admitted that she's alot like her character: "We are really, really similar. I used to deny it, but now I don’t think it is a bad thing. She is kind of a role model for girls." (read more)
